Osler welcomes Mat Brechtel, who joins the firm’s top-ranked Intellectual Property practice group as a partner in the Vancouver office with expertise in intellectual property disputes and multi-jurisdictional litigation. Mat was previously with Seastone IP.
Mat has represented well-known international brands, leading technology companies and major public institutions. He defends intellectual property rights in confidential information, trademarks, copyrights, software and designs. Mat also counsels businesses regarding the use of IP assets online, navigating unique challenges with novel use, software and app copyright matters, streaming and other emerging platform issues.
With his expertise in multi-jurisdictional litigation, Mat has acted on behalf of clients obtaining evidence in Canada for use in legal proceedings around the world, and clients concurrently enforcing their intellectual property rights in multiple jurisdictions.
