According to Global Mergers & Acquisitions Review, the average value of M&A transactions in Canada during the third quarter of 2025 increased compared to the same time last year. In an interview with Droit-inc, Niko Veilleux, a partner in the Corporate Group in Montréal, says the decline in interest rates and the weakness of the Canadian dollar are boosting the dynamics of the domestic market.

“We can expect larger transactions in the coming months,” says Niko. “When the level of confidence increases, leaders become more comfortable making important strategic decisions.”

Niko first noticed an acceleration of projects during the summer. “In Canada, the impact of tariffs was concentrated on a few sectors but, for other sectors, the impact was not significant,” he says.

He also believes the federal budget announcements regarding defence and infrastructure investments will create opportunities for Canadian businesses. “The defence market will open up for companies that already supply the civilian market, allowing them to expand their products to the military market,” says Niko.

The Canadian trend is similar to the global trend for the first three quarters of 2025. The value of announced transactions worldwide increased by 33%, reaching US$3,051 billion, its highest level since 2021, while the number of transactions decreased by 7%.
